Mercedes NTG4.0 / NTG4.5 / HU6 CarPlay Upgrade: What Works on 2007–2025 Models

Mercedes-Benz infotainment spans three retrofit-relevant generations: NTG4.0 (2007–2013), NTG4.5/4.7/5.0 (2013–2019) and HU6 (2019–2025). All three accept an OEM-integration CarPlay decoder — but each needs a different module.

NTG4.0 (2007–2013)

Found in A, B, C, E, ML, GL, SLK and S Class vehicles of that era. These cars have the older COMAND interface with the flip-up or small fixed screen. The NTG4.0 decoder adds full wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and mirroring while keeping COMAND fully functional.

NTG4.5 / NTG4.7 / NTG5.0 (2013–2019)

The highest-volume Mercedes retrofit platform — covering A, B, C, E, S, CLA, GLA, ML, GL, GLC and GLE Class. Identification tip: the widescreen COMAND with the touch-capable controller. Use the NTG4.5/4.7/5.0 decoder for this generation.

HU6 (2019–2025)

The MBUX-era head unit in A, CLA, GLA, GLB, GLE and GLS Class. Many of these cars shipped with smartphone integration disabled or region-locked — the HU6 decoder enables full wireless CarPlay and Android Auto on the factory display.

Installation Notes
