How to Identify Your Head Unit
The decoder you need depends on the head-unit platform, not just the badge. Quick identification tips:
- BMW: CIC has a round iDrive knob with menu buttons and a 4:3-ish interface; NBT adds the touch-capable knob and connectedDrive menu; EVO (ID5/ID6) shows tile-style menus.
- Mercedes-Benz: NTG4.0/4.5 uses the COMAND knob with a flip-up or fixed screen; HU6 is the MBUX-era widescreen.
- Audi: MMI 2G/3G has the pop-up screen and four-corner menu keys; MIB cars have the newer MMI touch or MIB3 tile interface.
- Porsche: CDR 3.0 is the basic radio; PCM 3.1 has nav with the older UI; PCM 4.0/5.0 uses the wide touchscreen.
